Can finding a great book make you happy and sad at the same time? This one sure did. This is well written page turner of a book, that almost overnight became and international bestseller. I read somewhere that not all bestseller are great books but that all great books are bestsellers. I don’t know if this is always true, but in this case it certainly is. From the first page this excellent mystery cranks up the suspense and never lets up.
Set in Sweden, we get an inside look at Swedish culture and the quirks of Swedish law. The best way to describe this thoroughly enjoyable read, is as an Agatha Christie mystery on steroids. Once I picked it up it was virtually impossible to put down. The book does have its flaws, but it is such fun reading that they are easily forgivable.
Sadly the author of this excellent book passed away shortly after handing in this and two other manuscripts. He will be sorely missed. Hopefully the other two books are as good as this one.
Cesar, they’re even better! Book 2 is out next summer from Knopf; wait for it if you prefer to read it in American English. Enjoy, Reg Keeland in Albuquerque
